Top Gear...

Anyone else watch the new reboot tonight?
I actually enjoyed it, same daft old show just new presenters. Apart from Chris Evans being a little shouty at times I couldn't fault it!

CE was a lot worse than I'd feared, a bit like some has-been fading star delivering an OTT pantomime performance. Mat Le Blanc looked lost.

To be fair, I didn't see the last 2/3rds as I'd seen enough Shocked

Big disappointment - was hoping for something better - but sadly just the usual idiotic stuff. eg I had hoped the S1 vs Jeep would be more informative about the design and differences between these iconic vehicles but no, just a load of fCensored about on Blackpool beach.
And were those 2 really the best guests they could get for the first of the new show - good grief
IMO the best bits were the few shots of the jet fighters.

It wasnt all bad because I then stayed in from of the TV to watch a programme about the Battle of Jutland and discovered there is one remaining WW1 dreadnought in preservation -in USA, USS Texas - - now that was interesting. The only ones Ive seen face to face are at the bottom of Scapa Flow in a bit of a state. Jules

I wasnt even going to mention CE because Im rather biased - as Ive still havent recovered from him ruining my commute to work after he took over Radio Two from Sir Terry Jules

Pathetic - CE will be regretting taking on the role. The BBC will be regretting spending squillions of our money for what will be a flop. Clarkson et al will be chocking on their cornflakes this am not believing how poor it was. MY 09 GS manual in Lago Grey, Wood Co arm rest and side bumper strips - now sold.

Utter crap turned off after ten minutes.
They had a good chance to try something different and revamp the show but it was the same formula except with a shouty ginge at the helm.

It wasn't all bad - Leblanc was OK when on his own, and some of the content was adequate (to damn with faint praise). But Evans was just irritating - even when he wasn't shouting his voice was annoying. But the real loss was the chemistry between the presenters - there was none. Clarkson et al could take the (basically abysmal) Reliant road trip and make it vaguely entertaining simply because of the way the presenters interacted with one another. That was totally lacking here, and as a result it just didn't work.

Additionally I think they missed an opportunity to update the show a bit - this was just Clarkson's TG without Clarkson. I'd have pensioned off the Stig with the tired "some say" references, and diluted the silliness rather more than they have done.

Finally, the segment at Top Gun seemed a huge wasted opportunity - apart from a few clips from the film and a shot of an aircraft taking off at the end all they were doing was charging around a runway, and they could have done that at home! Surely they could have made something more of it.

TG with the old presenters had got threadbare - same sorts of things every episode.
There was a chance here to re-vamp the show, for instance:
Guest presenters, like Have I Got News For You.
Pick audience members to take part in some future programme.
Give some meaningful technical information on cars we might buy, instead of shouting and supercars and tyre-smoke.
But the new show is pretty much cut-and-pasted on the format of the old show.
Thing is, that threadbare old format had been kept on life-support by the Clarkson et al team's interpersonal chemistry.
The new team don't carry the old format so successfully.
I thought Matt le Blanc did well.
But Chris Evans ... his forte is one-man and off-the script stuff, which Top Gear is not.
By the way, did anyone notice in the credits ...
Danny Baker (no comment). The quick brown fox

What a load of tosh. I wasn't expecting much from CE and he delivered even less. How old does he think he is? Dressed like a poor teenager, shouting everything and just totally stupid. Motoring journalism for Sun readers.

Evans has the face for radio and the voice for silent movies. Pathetic presentation of a poorly-planned programme. Ours - 2008 Stornoway Grey HSE Auto
Tricia's - 2006 Royal Blue Beetle Cabriolet Auto
Mine - 2014 Vespa GTS 300 Super Sport Matt Black
Ours - 2007 White Bailey Pageant Champagne

I'm glad it's not just me that finds CE's voice and manner unbearable. I am forced to listen to him on Radio 2 every morning because my wife likes the music (NOT because she likes his voice)

In fact I've never met anyone who likes listening to CE's voice. So how come he's the BBC's highest paid star? Am I missing something?
