Had a similar problem on a Focus a few years ago with 'intelligent' or 'smart' charging. Light came on a minute or so after starting but still showing a charge. Turned out to be a 1 amp fuse that went to the blue wire. Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

Ok, wire repaired and re-plugged in alternator, fuel filter replaced and secured (did not bleed system, thanks dave)
