Ok guys 2008 Freelander 2 2.2 Diesel

New Battery fitted
All voltages taken using fluke type voltmeter

Before Starting Car Battery Voltage (on my Meter) 12.43v

Start Car Ignition light goes out engine at idle revs Battery Voltage 13.67v

Car still idling for 2 mins ignition light comes on Battery Voltage 13.67v

Engine still idling, ignition light on, lights on full beam Battery Voltage 13.61v

Why is battery light on as there is definitely charging current what can I check next????

don't know why but my car did the same when I put a new battery on, when I started it the next day it was fine and has been since. Common sense isn't very common.

Ok guys,
after searching in the forums I found an entry by REFURB PETE about a blue wire from the alternator causing the battery light problem so I decided to investigate.

This is what I found !!!!!!!!!

Interesting I didn't know about this,at least it's an easy fix for you.

Had a similar problem on a Focus a few years ago with 'intelligent' or 'smart' charging. Light came on a minute or so after starting but still showing a charge. Turned out to be a 1 amp fuse that went to the blue wire. Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

Ok, wire repaired and re-plugged in alternator, fuel filter replaced and secured (did not bleed system, thanks dave)

Car started. no ignition light, left to run for 15mins, still no ignition light, hopefully that's it....

Now to remove undertray and recover socket I let fall.

I might as well change the oil while I am there

and to Dave for the info about not spilling any diesel and it should start without bleeding

and to Refurb Pete for the info on the blue wire

ps Pete, can you tell me how difficult it is to rejoin the two ends of the broken wire next time
