With a few inches more ground clearance the fl2's would have done that route no problems at all, they are considerably more nimble than discos, however as we saw the Discos came into their own in the quarry. Shame cumbrian canary didnt have a go down the steep bits, he was tempted at one point Laughing

It is possible to raise the ground clearance slightly by fitting more substantial (off-road) tyres. I remember when researching the Fl1 that MTs would give a good inch extra clearance whilst BFGoodrich ATs (the perfect balance tyre between road/off-road) would lift it a fair bit too.

You can certainly fit Wrangler MT/Rs on the Freelander 2 and I'm not certain about the BFGs but it's fairly likely.

Mantec also make underbody protection for the Freel2, including a sump guard and tank guard.

The Mantec guards look good, but why do they cost so much??

I think that a sill guard would be useful. Does anyone make such a thing?

I sent him a message a couple of weeks ago, his view was that if there was enough interest, he could do the rock sliders (replace the plastic sills across the bottom car) and his own version of the sump guard (D3 one looks really good), the problem is the time, and cost of materials in developing them, as it would take a few prototypes to get them to fit right.

I'm sure if enough people wanted rock sliders, and were willing to put their money where their mouths are, he'd give it a go.

I would be interested, depending on price. Is it worth setting up a new thread to canvass opinion?

Might be a idea to set up a new thread,

I would not be interested, I don't do enough off roading to make it worth while, but if I can help in any other way let me know

PS I will be taking off the sticky part of this thread in a week or so once this events chatter has finished Thumbs Up Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Finally got round to washing my car on Saturday

I was horrified by the about a slight swirls marks running down each side of the car from the conifers rubbing against the car

There are a few lighter, scratches, but the rest are numerous hazing

I'm glad I put on my magnets for the second half of the day or god knows what i would be looking at Shocked

Guess i have to give the car another polish with the Megs G220 DA Polisher and avoid runs like this

CY - you used to be able to fit BFG MTR's to the F1, a friend of mine in Edinburgh used to offroad an Frelly1 V6 shod with them. The V6 Freely 1 had the disadvantage over the others in the range that it had 1" less ground clearance too so fitting the BFG's brought it up to the same ground clearance as the others. He also ran with the Mantec underside protection and the Mantec rear front and rear recovery points fitted. Since doing quite a lot of damage to the underneath of the F1 (even with the bash plates - which didn't protect the IRD/VC!) - he now runs a Defender90 for offroading. How can carbon have a footprint, it has no feet?
Now driving - RRE Coupe Dynamic Lux Auto with Plus pack, Fuji White, Ebony, SD4 with tow pack
Gone - 2010MY FFRR TDv8 Stornoway and Ivory, Privacy - the pace of a TDv8 RRS, the incomparable grace of a Range Rover
Gone but will be missed- RRS Tdv8 HSE Stornoway Grey with Ebony Leather
Gone (only a little missed) RRS Tdv6 2.7SE Giverny Green/Aspen
Defender 90 County HT in Epsom Green
