Vibration at Tickover

Hi All,

In the last few weeks I've noticed an increase in engine vibration at tickover. Enough to feel through the seat and make a few rattles from the panels. Absolutely fine if you rev the engine a bit and when driving. Not terrible just worrying.

I can't hear anything unusual under the bonnet and it makes no difference if the engine is hot or cold. Aux belt, idler pulley and alternator all relatively new 20k or so.

Any ideas.

has the clutch/flywheel ever been changed ?

the dual mass flywheel is there to remove/reduce vibrations and if your getting them it could be a sign of failing DMF (£700 - £1200 depending on where you go)

Hi, thanks for reply. Clutch and flywheel where replaced about 10k ago.

I had noticed a bit more vibration at the usual 1700rpm but not at tickover. Clutch pedal in or out makes no difference in neutral and it is the same if in 1st with the clutch in. Once I'm under way all is normal.

Could it be something as simple as a loose belt? You mention you had work done a while back - may just need re-tensioning No Longer the owner of a 2013MY Fuji White GS

Hi, I don't think it's the aux belt tension. I know what that sounds like when it all goes starts to go wrong, hence the new alternator, and idler pulley (under extended warranty thankfully).

However, noticed today after an "enthusiastic" run up the Unstone bypass that things were a lot better.

Injector on the way out?

have you blanked off the egr valve ?

say that as my 07 fl was a bit lumpy on tick over until I blanked the egr off
with a simple plate at the front of the engine and no warning lights or problems
since,

hope you sort it .

Hi Captin, yes EGR blanked off over a year ago. Best and cheapest mod I've made. Better performance, uses less fuel and way less smoke from exhaust.

Took the throttle body off when I fitted blanking plate. It was full of black sludge. Removed again recently, due to split hose, completely clean.

Engine mounting on way out would increase vibrations. Just one more thing to tick off your list. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

as yorky bob says engine mount maybe ? also cant see it being an injector or it would be
throwing up a light I would of thought and be lacking power ect.

Update.

Thanks for your advice guys. Just got round to replacing the right hand (drivers side) engine mount. **Thanks to Turbolove for his great write up**.

Sure enough it was down by about 10mm from normal, nothing like as worn out as Turbolove's, so about halfway to worn out.

Tickover vibration much better and also the typical vibration at 1500 - 1800 has all but gone.

Next stop - left hand side engine mount.
