Jack plug ?

Hello, can anyone tell me what the 3 mm jack plug with a picture of a music note and clapperboard is for on my 2012 ( MY 2013) FL 2 located by the 12v sockets is for please. I understand it is more than likely for iPods/ MP3 s etc but when I plugged headphones in nothing happened, the AUX music still came out the speakers.
Thanks, apologies if it is a stupid question !
