Loss of engine power

My Freelander suddenly refuses to rev above 2800 rpm. Message states that there is "reduced engine performance" which is bit obvious. Any thoughts on the cause?

have it link to a diagnostic tool and it will tell you whats causing it, with a fault code, then its working out what part could cause that fault Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

When this happened to me, I called LR Assist, it turned out to be a problem with the fuel filter, took him about an hour to sort it out complete with resetting fault code information.

Re: Loss of engine power

Dear Friend, it was also common in my FL2 SD4, whenever he thought of reaching the quickdown was immediate engine power reduction, many spoke in air intake for turbine hose, but it came down to simple fuel filter exchange LR007373 (except error). Big hug!

It could be any number of things - the "reduced performance" mode is designed to protect the engine when there is a fault. As npinks says above, you need to have the fault codes read, otherwise you could be replacing half the car before you find the reason!
It's only happened to me once, on the present car, and it cleared itself on restarting - probably a glitch in a sensor somewhere. Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone
300TDi Disco (bought new - terrible car) sent back after 18 months
Freelander 1 Estate - leased, given back at end of lease
200TDi Disco (bought from a mate with 100,000 on the clock) - Gone
Disco 2 TD5 - sold and exported to France
FR2 TD4 GS - Gone
FR2 SD4 HSE - Now changed for a DS
New model ex-demo Evoque S 180 in white
Unable to order a new DS, so gave up. Now have a Volvo S90 Recharge.
