inventive way to deal with a difficult problem

Hello all. I wonder if any one can help me with an inventive way to deal with a difficult problem. I have a 57 FL2 which has got the issue with the fuel gauge, disconcerted wires in the tank. This has stopped the Land Rover when I was travelling. Thankfully the tow home 4 weeks later must have jolted them back in to place and it now runs sweet as a dream. I am sure the issue is the wiring as I tried allsorts to get it going those 4 weeks it was stuck in work. Can I fool the ECU with the wiring at the top of the tank to receive a signal that the tank is full, by wiring two together or something like that? I want this as a short term fix I do intend to do it right but finances just now force this more inventive approach

I used an old plug and two 150 ohm resistors, there are two fuel senders so you have to fool the ECU that both have fuel. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her
Replaced by Ewok what a mistake - now a happy Disco Sport owner

Just remember, there are two tanks with a transfer pump.
The ECU is either no longer connected to the pump, or believes that there is sufficient fuel in the primary side, and so will not transfer from the secondary side.

Keep the fuel tank topped up and treat it as though you have a 30 litre capacity.

Thanks very much for that as well. I never gave it though about the saddle tank. Told the girl friend that she would be fine for 300 miles if she filled it full. I have had to have a rethink on that one. I have learnt the hard way about bleeding but got a solution for that

Please tell as I yet to change my fuel filter myself.

Fill the filter before you fit it. Start engine and hold 2000 rpm for a couple of minutes - job done.
If you run out, buy a draper (think Rover 200 diesel) priming bulb and get fittings from a scrapper. Takes an age even if the battery lasts. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her
