erratic fuel gauge

had the erratic fuel gauge yesterday .did the take battery leads off trick and its working better than ever.is this classed has a hard reset?

Best to hold the positive and negative cables together for 10 seconds or so to ensure that everything is fully discharged. That is a hard reset.
