Took car into independent for what I thought was a fuel filter issue they've informed me that there's oil in the air intake any one got any ideas please

Why did you think you had a fuel filter issue?

Will look at mine a MY13 (when it stops raining) to see if there is a obvious drain pipe or breather that may need attention. Otherwise have you had it washed off and someone spray anything into the engine bay ? FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

Not had engine cleaned or anything sprayed into it

Reason for filter thought was it seemed slightly hesitant at low revs when low on fuel and when I bought it the dealer had let it run out of fuel but that was three months ago so was advised to change filter

How much oil?

I was under the impression (and might be completely wrong!!) that a little oil in the air intake pipework was "normal" as it can get in there from the EGR/turbo?

The junction in the air intake at the back of the engine is a known "weep" point for a little oil from the turbo.....

That might all be boswellox; I'm sure someone more knowledgeable will be along shortly....

Not sure how much oil was in there but the guy at Bosch service centre seemed concerned about it I've used them for many years and they're pretty knowledgable id have thought a small amount is quite normal but he said he lured it out of it when he took it off so more than acceptable by the sound of it

Had a look and can see the warm air intake pipe goes down the back of the engine to pickup air near exhaust I guess. So culprit may will be in that area but can't see close enough from above and others may have more info re turbo leaks etc.

If its only 3 months of ownership you should have some consumer rights to have this dealt with by the seller I believe and as for running out of fuel why did the seller not replace the filter before delivery if they needed to tell you that ????

As ever the Honest John web pages are hot on consumer rights re cars.

Worth keeping an eye on mine at 42K then.

Thanks for your help bob I'll no doubt find out the damage this afternoon and I'll be speaking to the dealer straight after, it has full LR history and bought from a large reputable dealer and conned into RAC gold warranty so I'll be trying hard to avoid paying for any repair  Classic 4.2lse gone great car
