Not sure how much oil was in there but the guy at Bosch service centre seemed concerned about it I've used them for many years and they're pretty knowledgable id have thought a small amount is quite normal but he said he lured it out of it when he took it off so more than acceptable by the sound of it

Had a look and can see the warm air intake pipe goes down the back of the engine to pickup air near exhaust I guess. So culprit may will be in that area but can't see close enough from above and others may have more info re turbo leaks etc.

Thanks for your help bob I'll no doubt find out the damage this afternoon and I'll be speaking to the dealer straight after, it has full LR history and bought from a large reputable dealer and conned into RAC gold warranty so I'll be trying hard to avoid paying for any repair Classic 4.2lse gone great car
