Hi guys,

I've been diagnosed with the diff bearing problem by my local dealer. Booked in to do the bearing repair this week...

I since had a look under the car at the diff (crawled under from the back) and notices a covering of oil over the passenger side half-shaft near the rubber boot at the diff, contamination extends over the back half of the diff. The drivers side half-shaft and boot is completely dry and clean.

Worried that

1) the garage didn't mention this oil leak, seems weird that they didn't!
2) the bearing repair will just be the start of a few extra jobs that are going to be needed to cure this leak
3) damage has maybe been done to the diff through losing oil.

Any thoughts on this or advice?

strange you never noticed it before, as some oil drips would be evident on your drive.

sounds like the dealer has done something when investigating the problem ?

On-street parking so possible I just haven't realised... spoke to the garage today, they tell me the diff repair includes replacement of the half-shaft seals - so likely the mechanic didn't bother mentioning it as it would be put right as part of the other work.

Fingers crossed all will be put right soon enough
