Nanty & Strata

Finally got the freeby out on some lanes! Went around the Nant y moch area & then Strata Florida on Sunday. She was fine around Nanty but I was very glad of the sump & tank guards on Strata!! We had a P38, 90, my F2 and a lifted D2.

Capability wise I was very happy, just such a shame that LR didn't build in the ability to easily lift & gain clearance! But apart from a few bangs underneath it was easy as driving the same route in my old lifted D1.

Here's some pics:

Hi Bandit, Great photos. Planning to make a start on offroading at the Kielder Safaris later this year. I see you have Cooper AT tyres. Look good and capable. Are they original size or have you given yourself a bit of a lift?

Hi,

Yes, the AT3's were fine, though it was dry and no boggy bits. They're 245/70R17, so a bit more clearance (much needed!) and very glad I had the sump & tank guards on.

Hi Kemaro,

Yeah I have seen that shire horse 4x4 thing. I think it clashed with something, I'll recheck.

How did she cope with the bomb hole? Shocked

Done a fair bit of green laning around wales but in an old Pajero which was lifted and big tyres. Always wanted to try the FL2 but it's my daily drive as well so can't afford for it to be off the road (pardon the pun).

Massive kudos to you for taking your FL2 down there!

I have been down many a time in my Defender and Disco 2 but wouldnt attempt it in the FL2. Thumbs Up North Wales Land Rover Club

Hi Bandit,

might be a silly question, but are those max trax you got on the roofrack there or some other sort of sand ladder?

Cheers,

TBH, apart from a few stray boulders, she was fine. It's purely clearance that holds you back, but I've driven strata in a std D1 and found it similar.

Yep, just a couple max trax strapped across the rails. Thought they might be prudent given possible clearance & articulation issues, but they stayed unused Very Happy

Some years ago I was in a Vauxhall Fronterra in Andorra and I took the wrong turning and ended up on a mountain track, no way to turn around, sheer drop on one side and 45 degree slopes on slippery gravelly surface. Ended up in low range dreading the thought of coming down again. Eventually got to the top and emerged into a car park full of ordinary cars and a tarmac road. What a relief!
