If a charity is formed as a company, then the Trustees are directors of the company - I am finance director (but not trustee and hence not a Director of the company per companies house) and company secretary for a charity - and a trustee of another charity. Some confusion does arise because the term director can mean different things in different places!

It used to be the case that Trustees could not be remunerated other than to receive expenses. However, it is now possible for Trustees to be remunerated. In the charity of which I am trustee, one of the other trustees is remunerated for the admin work that she does.
