EGR valve (Exhaust Gases Recirculation)

When accelerating i can see that my F2 releases a lot of black smoke at the back and i was wondering why, until today that i found about this EGR valve. I have covered 28000km up to now and i was wondering if this valve already needs cleaning. Is there a specific amount of kilometers after which you must clean this EGR valve? Freelander 2 GS TD4, Stornoway Grey, Manual, called BEAST!!!

To my knowledge it is a non servicable component. still pining for my 3dr, no removeable hardtop, no drop glass tailgate, no roof rack, no pockets everywhere to stow all that man kit

Is it possible to have some sort of problem with the EGR valve but the only symptoms you have is the smoke coming out from the exaust? (car power is ok i think) Freelander 2 GS TD4, Stornoway Grey, Manual, called BEAST!!!

Might be worth checking for leaky turbo hose / air filter as this can cause black smoke.

hi guys, i ve seen this happen when the clip falls of the electronic actuator and the waste gate on the turbo never opens, this could well be your problem. they all do that!

Smoke from the exaust

Hi, I'm new here, I've got 2010 LR2 E-type, diesel with manual gearshift from january this year (6000 miles). Can someone jelp me about this: namely when I put a middle to hard acceleration on the pedal I've got a plenty of smoke (gray or mid-black). The cars behind me are in cloud of smoke. Is this normal for a new car or something is wrong? In the service gave me an unsatisfied answer (the car is new, the fuel is bad etc.). Please someone direct me what to do?

The power is enormous, just the cloud of smoke. As I read few other posts about the gentle acceleration till 2000 revs and then "give a hell" I've noticed a reduction of the black emmission. Is that the way this diesel should be driven?

Smoke - what smoke?
Driven hard from day one no smoke at any revs.
Towing a 1 tonne "trailer" even on the autobahn
where I mistakenly believed there was no speed limit
the front of the white trailer stayed clean - which is
much better than the previous 2 cars.

Get it back to the dealer - if some do not smoke then none should. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her
Replaced by Ewok what a mistake - now a happy Disco Sport owner

garfild,

I would suggest you to insist that the dealer should check it as soon as possible, as you said that the smoke is gray (burning oil) and also you have enormous power. It could be something wrong with the turbo, may be waste gate not functioning properly.
