P242d Fault code

I've had this code coming up intermittently for the last few days but now its on and wont clear for more than 2 minutes. I managed to find the code on the DTC code list alex_pescaru put up (thanks alex Thumbs Up ) and it says its an Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensor - circuit high (bank 1, sensor 3).

Anyone know where this is? I haven't had a chance to get under the car yet and have a look but looking at the error code list it looks as though there is a few of these sensors. Any help identifying which one it is would be greatly appreciated. 2011 Freelander 2 SD4 HSE

I have had this and the sensor was changed but then found that another was required as there was false reading. Then 4 months later it failed again. Part of the story below

Thanks for the info Dorset, its the same code every time I clear it so pretty sure its that sensor. I just dont know where it is, I was hoping someone would have a drawing or service book detailing where it is. 2011 Freelander 2 SD4 HSE

The LR Assist guy said that there are 3 exhaust gas sensors on DPF fitted cars and that sometimes one of them gets damaged if you are off roading (what on a Land Rover?) he got underneath and said that it's also necessary to check a hose to the DPF which is a common failure as it splits (mine was nearly gone). One other thing, he took the cover off the engine and (looking from the front) at the back of the engine on the right is a connector for one of the sensors, he checked the wiring to the plug for integrity and squirted some switch cleaner in but it made no difference. He showed me on his computer how the sensor should have been reading about 350C but was only registering 25C however when I took it in to the LR Dealer they eventually found that two sensors had gone and they said that you can get false readings. That was sorted and then about 4k miles later one went again! 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

Thanks again, the car does go offroad most weekends, nothing crazy just through some fileds etc so maybe one has took a bang. Im assuming they are just RTD's so ill get my meter out and check the 3 of them, (once I find them) to see if there is an odd one out.

I got an RAC platinum warranty with the car so it should be covered under that but Id like to diagnose it myself before hand Smile 2011 Freelander 2 SD4 HSE
