Hi YorkshireKev, I have these fitted. Yes they are M+S marked. I have been across the top of moors above Chesterfield and over towards Castleton in the snow. Did very well. Not as good as true winter tyres but way better than the Goodyear efficient grips (which are also marked M+S) I had on last winter. They were poor to say the least.

Hi, been watchinh the rugby the rugby so excuse the tryping. Had a few cold drinks. Noise is not too bad and you get used to it after a while. Thankfully on mine pretty quiet at arround 70mph . They do look good on the car in my opinion. Another option if your not worried about offrod ability are Nokian allweather. Getting some good reviews on this forum and very good in winter. I want to try some offroad days so will stick with the GG ATs.

Hi cqr, it was your posts made me look for some GG ATs. Found a set on ebay complete with XS alloys for £200. I meant to use as winters but I dont want to take them off and put the GY Efficient Slips back on. GYs are great tyres for the summer. Quiet, good for economy, excellent grip in the wet. Its just they look like they should be on a Nissan Squishsquash (or however you pronounce it).

I have GG AT's on mine, they are great on snow! Felt like I was driving on tarmac! They are great on dry tarmac, I find they can be a little bit skiddy in the wet (only felt the back end fling out once in the wet and that was probably my driving more than the tyres fault!)

As regards the Kielder run - Do you know anyone that has done this particular run in a Freelander 2 before that could give you a steer or else usually organisers know and are happy to discuss how certain challenges suit certain vehicles. I have also found the GG AT tyres a good allround tyre on and off road and I was impresed with their grip in the snow in the Scottish Hills this year. For off road use I have found the larger 245/70 X 17 GG AT's to have been the cheapest and best ground clearance improving mod I have done and particularly when changing tyres anyway but worth checking in advance your insurance company are ok with the mod. I also think they give the car a more purposeful look too....... |

Hi Uncleron, thanks for your reply. Have looked at some posts and YouTube on Kielder and looks like it should be okay without tank guards.

I did call my insurance company and they were ok with the larger GG AT tyres with no affect on premium for me - I think they were a bit surprised at someone fitting larger tyres rather than lower profile tyres.....

Kielder - there was a discussion on here in the last week or so and it turns out there are two forum members involved in running it. You should be able to find it using the search button. I did the Kielder run last year and it was actually quite tame. Totally non-damaging except for a bit of minor scratching from friendly Christmas trees near the route. If you are worried tell them at the start and they'll find you alternatives for any rough stuff. It's not serious off-road stuff - just a pleasant day out on muddy tracks and an excellent breakfast!
