Have you changed the steering fluid reservoir and fluid? if not that could be causing the noise. 2013 FL2 XS.

yep - first change the PAS fluid (CH202 IIRC) and the reservoir (which cantains a non-replaceable filter) Jules |

The none replaceable filter gets blocked putting the PAS pump under stress. Change the PAS reservoir and give it some new fluid of the correct grade.
