RonP - I don't know if LR refer to it as EBA, emergency brake assist, but once the car detected you were applying the brakes as if in an emergency, you could feel it applying maximum braking force and the hazards came on (then off once I stopped braking and moved off)

Steve D - I wonder if the Evoque has the larger stone/dust shield that the Freelander has - apart from the disc itself and the caliper carrier, the set up is ready for the larger disc that came as standard on the 3.2l petrol model. When I looked at Evoque discs on websites such as Eurocarparts, IIRC the only size disc they offered was the same size as the diesel Freelander.

Mav71 - if the larger disc reduces the braking distance by that much, that's impressive and a great result. I find they are better when pulling up at roundabouts where I found the standard brakes a bit lacking when coming to a halt (we are often in Milton Keynes, you get to do that a lot!), and worse in the automatic I have now than my previous manual gearbox Freelander.

It was impressive! It was bone dry and with winter tyres, which are a lot softer to be fair. But been out in her today and done anther 30 odd miles and they are getting better now that they are bedded in! Freelander 2 HSE Lux 2013MY - Barolo Black with Ivory Leather. No spec change was made to any model year. The brakes have always been the same. Freelander 2 HSE Lux 2013MY - Barolo Black with Ivory Leather. Alpine DVD - Privacy -Evoque 20" Dynamic Wheels and more to come.........

If youre increasing the braking performance so as folk say you nearly go through the windscreen when you apply them, are you putting the rest of the suspension components under greater stress? one would think so? and thus shorten the their life, eg suspension bushes, or should these be upgraded accordingly too, maybe on cars fitted with the bigger brakes as standard the bushes etc are upgraded or better material too??

Your looking way too deep into things. Suspension on the FL2 is identical not matter what engine, spec or transmission your running.

You will not shorten life in any component by upgrading the brakes. If anything, under normal driving conditions your likely to go through less brake components with the uograde than you would on standard brakes, as the system is more efficient with the bigger discs.

Car durability testing during development puts a car through such extreme situations that we as drivers would never ever be able to replicate such situations during the everyday use that we normally do.

Is is why cars now are so much better than 25 years ago. Freelander 2 HSE Lux 2013MY - Barolo Black with Ivory Leather. Alpine DVD - Privacy -Evoque 20" Dynamic Wheels and more to come.........

Powerful UK front brake upgrade - any thoughts?

I stumbled across a Youtube video from Powerful UK this afternoon concerning fitting i6 discs and caliper carrier to the diesel Freelander 2. It states that's all that changes - the pads are the same.

Hopefully the link is allowed here - Powerful UK don't actually seem to sell the bits so it's just a 'how-to' video.

I've never been all that impressed with the brakes on the Freelander and need to do my fronts later this year - I'd be interested if anyone thinks this is a mod worth doing?

I find the brakes on mine are fine and feel I do not need to go off spec, kept fully serviced with perfect working faces etc the car flew through the MOT last week.

Also just been bled as per the 3 year service schedule and that has given back a better pedal feel. Thumbs Up FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

Now having read the previous thread I wonder if these mods will invalidate insurance ? FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

Do we have a part number for the OEM discs & pads as discussed here?

OEM part number for the discs is LR027107, although if you Google the number you'll get OEM and non-original parts come up under the same search. Looks like some sellers are discounting old stock so you could pick up a good deal.

Pads are the same whichever size disc you use - LR004936. I am running the Evoque pads which are an identical fit but apparently better.

Hope that helps. 2016 BMW X3 30d SE in red

I have just done this upgrade, haven't noticed any difference in performance however I think it's worth doing given how reasonable the calliper carriers are.

I went for aftermarket discs and OEM pads.

Very interesting .... this will be my next mod as I find the original brakes not enough. Thumbs Up

Is it possible to order the necessary brake callipers only from an LR dealer ?

What about the rear brakes ? Question are they the same on Diesel and Petrol ?

Cheers

In order to do the rears you'll need new calipers. I'm sure you could buy the front carriers from LR, got mine on eBay via the link on here.
