United Kingdom 2010 Freelander 2 SD4 XS Manual Santorini Black
Suspension heights different

Hi Everyone. I have recently noticed my front suspension height is lower than the spec, and the rear slightly higher than spec. Having taken notice of others, even some of the approved used in dealerships, others are exactly the same, and some are totally level. It doesn't seem to have any pattern with age or spec. A 2014 one had the same issue!!! What could be the reason for this and what would I need to replace to get it level again? Such as springs / shock absorber etc?

I'm a bit baffled.

Thanks

What kind of difference are we talking about? mm? cm?

sure they were fitted with the same size tyres and pressures were the same etc? was there any weight in the car and did they have the same engines? MY2011 Freelander 2 GS Santorini Black

about a cm out each end. not sure about the engines but they were all different specs and wheel sizes. so for example mine is an SD4 XS, i've seen the same issue with HSEs, TD4s, there doesn't seem to be any noticeable pattern as far as i can tell. if it was say all SD4s or all XS specs then i'd understand but this doesn't appear to be the case as a 2010 XS SD4 i saw the other day was totally level!

Do you really notice 3/8" that much? and does 3/8" really matter? ok if it was an inch or more Id say something needs looking at.

Whats the spec are you using? the manufacturers? the distance from the centre of the wheel to the top of the arch, unloaded?

Lots of cars are naturally slightly lower at the front than the back so when the back is carrying a load the cars running sort of level, were the cars you saw carrying anything in the boot, the ones you think are level?

Maybe a full size spare say and jack etc can add 40kg weight to the rear end and thus lower it, where a car with just an inflation kit wouldnt weight almost anything?

I would treat the ocd. Too many variables to check a 1cm ride height, all the vehicles you have checked would need the same tyres, same pressures, same road, parked in the exact same way, I.e. Car is lower if handbrake applied whilst still moving. Shocks and suspension joints would need to be exact same temp to settle in the same way. List is endless for trying to check what your checking. 1 cm really can not be that problematic. Good luck though.

Have you thought about how much weight a full tank of fuel is compared to a car with a nearly empty one? the car has around a 14 gallon tank? And that would weigh around 140lbs full, that would certainly make the rear end drop 10mm im sure, so maybe this is what youre seeing?

Is the ground level. Use a level. then turn the car around 180° & place the tyres in the same position & remeasure heights. Average the heights on each corner.
