According to the manual the PTC heater is fuse F16 (100 amp) located in the engine bay fuse box.

I wonder how much of the FR2 will have to be taken apart to get to the PTC Heater ? The fuse is easy but imagine if the dealer has to take most of the dash apart Big Cry Freelander 2 TD4 GS Auto with Winter Pack, Stornaway Grey, Ebony, Grey Mirror Caps. Removable towbar with 13 pin Electrics

Heater Fires

I went to the launch of the new 'landy' on friday at Farnell Landrovers in Guiseley near leeds so while I was there I collered a few people about the PTC heater but only one service guy knew anything about it and he said "had the dealer notified me" - NO THEY HADN'T - so I am going to fire off an email to them with a copy to Landrover and see what comes back.
I think that ANTHING that can threaten life should have an instant recall.
I also heard the other day about a freelander in Otley with a heater fire that was supposedly towed away for investigation by Landrover but nobody at Farnells (nearest ealer to Otley) that I talked to knew anything about this.
Post more when I hear more.

Starting problems and fire

Rovers,

I have the same problem I think:

Several times last year I had starting problems after my car was parked unused in my garage for a few days.
Battery was flat.
Dealer could nou find anything but thought about some current leakage. An update on the radio did not help.
Last Friday I couldnot start again and my car was towed away.
Now it appears there is a modification from LR UK: the dealer has to disconnect the wire to the pre-heater ( lets the car become warm whilst the liquids are still cold). It is possible that some moist will drop on the connectors and causes problems in the electrical circuit which could end up in a fire! Shocked
LR UK does not have a real solution yet for the bug...
Sad

Got my recall P011 letter today (1st October) so I can clarify some of the ambiguities.
The recall applies to 2007 -2009 model year vehicles, so I guess that was right from the start of production even though some were registered in 2006.- sorry npinks.
Quote from the letter; "CONDENSATION FROM THE AIR CONDITIONING EVAPORATOR MOUNTED IN THE AIR CONDITIONING UNIT CAN COME INTO CONTACT WITH THE CONTROL CIRCUITRY FOR THE ADDITIONAL ELECTRIC BOOSTER HEATER; A SHORT CIRCUIT MAY RESULT.... THE SHORT CIRCUIT MAY LEAD TO A DISTINCT SMELL FROM HOT AND/OR MELTED COMPONENTS WHICH IN EXTREME CIRCUMSTANCES MAY DEVELOP IN TO A FIRE IN THE INTERIOR OF THE VEHICLE. ALL OF THESE SYMPTOMS CAN OCCUR WHEN THE VEHICLE IS IN USE OR PARKED OR UNATTENDED...... THE REPLACEMENT BOOSTER HEATERS SHOULD BE AVAILABLE EARLY IN 2009"
They also say that the short circuit, presumably before it is serious enough to catch fire, causes the battery to go flat, leading to either non starting or slow cranking when trying to start.
Can anyone who has had the heater disconnected by the dealer confirm that they do it by removing fuse F16? Don`t drive faster than your angel can fly!

I think I better get mine to the dealers.

Last week whilst driving I could smell a burning sort of small. No smoke or flames, just thought it was coming in from outside some where.

Car is still starting and running fine but a couple of days ago I noticed the radio was no longer working at all.

Big Cry
