I've finally done it.....

Been thinking about a Freelander for a while now..... I've found an 11 plate XS with the extras that I wanted, though black wouldn't have been my colour of choice. I would have preferred red or one of the blues. Not collected it yet but old and new look rather similar! I'm really going to miss the boot space and towing capacity of the disco the most, but on the upside I'm hoping to save on fuel and road tax! Whistle

Looking forward to collecting it but fear I'll suffer disco withdrawal symptoms Big Cry I'm well used to Landrovers but I'm also hoping for a bit more reliability Rolling with laughter It better to laugh than cry

Relax. You'll enjoy the FL.

Like you I came from a D3 to a FL2 and was worried about the change as the D3 was such a phenomenal machine. Sure the FL2(SD4 HSE) is smaller but I didn't need to be hauling that weight around any more now the kids have grown.

I'd say the main thing I notice on a daily basis is the slight lack in quality of materials compared to the D3. The boot space is less durable and the plastics in the cabin are a bit hard. However in most other respects it's just a scaled down Land Rover. It handles a bit better, is more economical (but not by the margin I thought), is just as comfortable on trips and has almost as much cabin space.

You'll notice the smaller boot though. I used to carry all sorts in the D3 (bookcases, wardrobes, luggage for 4 adults) - it was like a van. The FL2 is just like a normal estate.

Enjoy.

Oh and I forgot 18 months old and it hasn't missed a beat or used a drop of oil. Don't believe the hype.

United Kingdom 2014 Freelander 2 SD4 SE Auto Firenze Red

We are on our 7th FL in total (FL1 and FL2) - found them to be very reliable, The only major component to cause an issue was the very first FL1 which needed a new IRD (pre Halex system) under warranty. Jules

England 2013 LR2 TD4 GS Auto Firenze Red

Hi Jules

I had this task over 3 years ago from Discovery, since the start of time, to a Freelander. Now on my second a MY13 Auto which I picked up for a bargain off fleabay last year. I did miss the Disco but only for a short while.

We all enjoy the Freelander and especially this new GS auto which my 18 year old son is now 'borrowing', he wants to take us up in the snow here in Cumbria today....................... but lets see if he gets out of bed!

Could be looking at the Disco sport next as really need an auto with a circular gear change and not a lever as boss 1 has a bad arm and struggles moving it back and forward.

Enjoy! Whistle B 1984 RR Vouge,H 1991 Disco 1, L 1993 Disco, N 1996 Disco, Y 2001 Disco, 53 Disco 2, 56 Disco 3, MY10 TD4 XS [Nav] Manual Rimini Red, MY13 TD4 GS Auto Firenze Red, MY15 Disco Sport SE Tech Firenze Red.
