If you touch the glass envelope or scratch it then life is dramatically reduced, are you handling them correctly? |

I bought 4 of these for my Saab in November 2009 because I thought dip beam was a bit dim. As they failed I put the originals back, all 4 originals were back by summer 2010 and they are still in.

First set I used lasted 12 months and all 4 failed within a very short time of each other (about a month I think). Replaced with same now 9 months in. It will be interesting to see if this set lasts a year.

Replaced my Halfords ones after 6 months/ 6k miles. I guess it doesn't help that the auto lights only ever seem to turn off when in the vicinity of a supernova, which is going to chew through the bulb's life expectancy pretty rapidly. Fuji White MY13 SD4 Dynamic gone: Rimini Red MY10 td4_e XS |

I would say that 5 minutes changing a lamp on the FL2 must be one of the best there is compared to a lot of modern cars. Incidentally my Osrams are just over 2 years now using the HB3 type. |

Perhaps pay Halford to fit the next set (not that much in the grand scheme of things) then if they fail within a year you get free replacements Or is there a problem in my thinking? MY 09 GS manual in Lago Grey, Wood Co arm rest and side bumper strips - now sold.

I have made a number of replies to various "bulb posts" on this matter.

Yep, already put an original back because of failure. So running my dipped bulbs with one standard and one nightbreaker. The difference in light output isn't that great ... certainly not worth the £16 to replace one. So just going to put the other standard one back in and keep the nighbreaker as a back up. Still got the nightbreakers in my main beam though, but don't really need them since I've got my HID spots fitted. Plus I've always got my standard high beam bulbs for the inevitable nightbreaker bulb failure
btw, it does declare on the Nightbreaker pack that life is shorter than standard bulbs. FL2 now gone and have a couple of items left for sale:- Brodit active iPhone holder + Brodit dash clip, Bluetooth Music Streaming Module. |

My local repairer says that for the latest cars (the ones with just a single bulb) he would only fit Genuine parts, as the others he's tried fail prematurely. Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone

Hmmm not entirely sure that the FL2 system is ok just because there are worse examples out there! I would however be quite happy with 2 years life out of the bulbs but I don't think 12 months is very good. I guess Osram at least tell you they won't last as long as a normal bulb but I got MUCH longer out of standard bulbs in my last car (and on which changing the bulb when it was needed really was less than 5 minutes and didn't require spanners or removing the entire light unit!). |

Nightbreakers are good but have a rep for not lasting to long.

High efficacy bulbs will never last as long by definition, that's the trade-off. What is totally unhelpful is the blue filter on the Night Breakers - it reduces a significant amount of the output, counteracting some of the initial gains and shortening bulb life even further.
