Hi All
The handbrake barely works on my 07 FL2, I assume one side has a seized mechanism or something.
Currently I don't know which side is a problem.
I want to strip the faulty mechanism down to clean it all up.
Any advice about which bits needs attention (ideally with photos), would be appreciated.

probably shoes corroded and liners detached, various thread on here about it. source new shoes from factor before stripping hub £30 ish, to avoid having to buy from your dealer at £100 At work

They will probably look much like these that I did on mine today



If your's lives outside as mine does they will probably be the same after 3 years of little use (as mine's an auto never bother much with it). Or if you use it a lot they could just be worn out.

Disks with drum inner will probably look like this


As CG says you will most likely need new hand brake shoes, rear disks, and brake pads. Sometimes if they are really bad you will need the expander bit that goes on the end of the handbrake cable between the shoes as they can break if very corroded (they are a separate part not included with the shoes).

The shoe adjuster in the drum looks like this and is under the plastic cap in the drum @ 3o'clock NS, 9 o'clock OS (i.e. @ the rear of drum)



The main hand brake cable adjuster/tensioner is inside the rear of the car under the little tray at the back of the central plastic console where the hand brake is, & prizes out on L & R . See below where the clips are on the upturned tray.



Really just a straight forward swap job if you are handy with your tools, and a bit of fiddling setting the shoe adjustment evenly

I have LR part no.s for all the bits if necc but any parts place should have all but the shoe expander readily available.

About £12+ ish each from a main stealer. I didn't get an itemised invoice as did a 'deal'

those brakes are much worse than mine were, and mine were fooked my dealer did ask if i needed new adjuster too as they often seized, they were ok At work

As were mine.

One was a bit stiff but was nicely greased ont' inside so just needed a good clean with a wire brush and some brake cleaner to sort.


Actually they (G.Salmon Wkfd) told me they broke more of the expanders getting them off, mine were ok but I'd got the new ones so put them on anyway.

Oh well could have got the parts cheaper from non LR source but they were very helpful on the phone on several occasions, not just on this.

Forgot to mention the pic of the OS one shows the worst one, but bizarrely this one wasn't causing the squeel & me to look to sort it, was the NS causing that. Go figure

OS was royally fooked as you say,but was still working, for how much longer though god knows

They will be deal with carriage though

just pricing it all up! gonna go for drilled front discs tho, not many places do the shoes online tho!

I resorted to the dog & bone as I think I only found them on Rimmer Bros site but dearer than @ LR parts.

If the fronts are anything to go buy they 'might' be the same as a Ford S-max,(or some other Ford) which from memory the front pads are, but I would have to bow to someone with a parts fische, or a better knowledge of the trade

yeah they are the same as ford s max and vovlo v40.

When i had my car in pieces earlier this week, there were more vovlo and ford parts than land rover parts!!!
