Just bought a 2007 Freelander 2 SE with loads of HSE gizmos fitted including the 6CDX Premium radio with Bluetooth.
It looks like 3 preset buttons on the radio don't work, the CD fast forward has no effect and I'm guessing the telephone button is preventing the Bluetooth from working.

I have replaced the factory fitted Bluetooth module with an identical unit, still no indication on the radio display when telephone button on radio or steering wheel is pressed. Fuse in boot is ok and module is powered up, but no go.

I'm going to attempt to dismantle the radio front panel to replace the dodgy switches if possible. Just waiting for trim removal tools before I attack the console.

Anyone stripped a radio panel before?

I could replace the radio/cd with a double din unit but where's the fun in that? That's the last resort.

Any advice appreciated, anything else about the Bluetooth I'm missing?

Hello Midland Rover, if only it were that simple, but the Bluetooth system gives no indication of being there, let alone working, so pairing is impossible.
Module sits on top of audio amp mounted in offside rear wing. Remove module and radio stops working, because many connections pass through module.
Unless the cars network has lost sight of the module and needs to be told it's still there, I'm going for the dodgy switch option although that doesn't explain why the steering wheel switch has no effect.
Any ideas?

Never thought of that, sounds like an expensive visit to the main dealer.
Incidentally I have the same model and colour FL2 as yours, but I like my yellow repeaters.

Fixed it ..... did point to point tests on pcb.
Fault found on input of radio module behind front panel.
Dry joint on routing diode, resoldered and all "faulty" buttons came back to life.

BUT now I have the famous Bluetooth NOT PAIRING problem associated with Freelanders.

At least the buttons work now.

Did you ever get your phone to pair? Update software or newer Bluetooth module?

My understanding of the MOST system is that you cannot just change out a module without reprogramming to introduce the new module into the MOST network, hence the "lost comms" message.
You'll either have to do this yourself with diagnostic equipment or visit dealer. MY15

There is a video on the net showing how to remove the complete fascia, well worth a look.
You will need some sort of wide blade tool to remove the centre speaker surround and carefully lift the coin tray in front of the satnav display. From there it is obvious which screws need to be removed. I seem to remember most if not all screws were Torx type.
Disconnect all electrical connectors and any mechanical clips as you go. No need to remove any part of the console around gearstick.
Radio comes apart in sections. I think the dry joints were close to a connector on a pcb which plugged into the keypad, not on the keypad itself.
The module software/firmware is not updateble.
With regards to the Bluetooth, I gave up in the end. Bought a 2nd hand Parrot and wired it to use a single speaker fitted in the centre dash position. Works well but I have to turn the radio volume down manually when the phone rings!!!!!
The phones that will work in your particular car will be listed on the Land Rover website.
However, you need to have the EXACT model phone with the EXACT same software build number as on the list otherwise you have very little chance of any function working.
The spare module I bought had the same model number as the original and had 3 phones displayed in its memory, one of which was the same as my wifes. I still couldn’t get hers to connect. Different build, module sold on.
I did read a post saying a 2010 model of the module worked for the person who posted, but unless you have access to other modules to try, it will be risky to buy one.
No “lost comms” message, because the system is talking to the module. From what is shown on phone and car displays, the car can see phone, but phone can’t see car. The same result with all the phones I tried and with both modules.
Get a Parrot and spend hours feeding cables through the dash and the console just to find power! At least the Parrot works.

Interesting.

The independent 4 x 4 dealer I went to pays for all software updates for Land Rovers and he said that there were no updates for the bluetooth system fitted to that model.
Now I'm curious, might be worth looking into but when I think of all the effort I put into getting the Parrot fitted ........

Sometimes your mechanic doesn't have the knowledge when it comes to these systems in the vehicle! Just like any computer, files can become corrupted and simply refreshing/flashing/resetting the ECU will remedy the problem. I can assure you that all ECU's/Modules are updatable, to a point, with correct hardware and having access to the software required to do so. MY15

Seems a lot of investigation and effort is required and this still doesn't guarantee a solution. I used a Jabra hands free in my previous car and I'm currently using that. Works well enough. This one: http://www.jabra.co.uk/in-car/jabra-drive
combined with Siri on iPhone it's a usable system.

so perhaps I'll ignore the non responsive phone mode for now. Strange that this item seems a common failure but all other buttons (CD, FM etc) work just fine. _____________________________________

If it was me the first thing if try is removing the MOST power supply link from the AJB. This may be enough to reset the
Bluetooth module. Otherwise just get dealer to re flash the module. MY15

I also think the car may not have had Bluetooth installed, it may have been an optional extra here in SA way back in 2008.
There aren't any Green or Red phone keys on the steering either... a possible clue.

I'll probably still look out of sheer curiosity at some point. _____________________________________
