Hi Guys,

Im looking at wiring up my new carplay headunit to the car's steering wheel controls. Ive gone through all the wiring diagrams and, as im sure many are, lost.

The car has the alpine system, and im aware i need to bypass the wiring with the adapter and patch lead. I just dont know which wires they are.

Anyone got any experience of activating the controls or help?

I swapped out my Freelander 2 (2011) bare-bones audio unit for a Sony XAV-712BT and the adapters I bought for the task included a module that also made the steering wheel controls usable. The only thing I had to do was find a live wire to power the head unit as it required 2 positives to operate correctly.

The barebones head unit wiring is much simpler, just requires a patch lead plugging in as you described. The alpine makes it more complicated, the headunit acts as a controller, which talks to the amp in the boot of the car before then sending the signal around the car.

Update,

I have found the wires in question. A module can be purchased from multiple companies (I'm using incartec) which patches into a connector from the old head unit.

1. Identify the green connector.

2. Identify the Yellow/Grey and Orange wires and patch the module into them.

3. Wire module into 12v ignition wire and plug patch lead into headunit.

Incidentally, this is the same connector for those wishing to use the CAN BUS connection.

I will provide photos when the module arrives.
