Can i please point out to those who do not know that their DRL's only work on the front.
Iwas passed earlier today by a beautiful white FL2 with DRL's on and after he passed rear of car was in darkness.
Especially now that dusk is about 5pm and lots of rain and poor visibillity.
I know some landrovers can set their DRL's to bring on the rear as well. Much safer.
Just a personal thing about lights "on".

DRL's are really bright and it can be easy to forgot the lights are off on a well lit road. Especially if you have halogens as they are crap! Take your point about the interior lights.
BUT how often have we seen cars with no lights at all driving in semi darkness.
Mainly just that i have a thing about "see and be seen"
Probably goes back to my younger days on a BSA 650 A10 Super Rocket.
