Sorry for my first post being a question.

I've had my MY2010 Facelift GS TD4 FL2 for a few months now and it's great. I decided to buy a set of wheels and winter tyres and have swapped my factory 17" alloys for a set of 16" genuine Land Rover alloys from an S model of unknown year. I noticed there is very little clearance especially at the front between the calipers and surface of the wheel.

Does anyone know if the same brake setup was used between the GS and S models? It might be normal and nothing to be concerned about but I thought it was worth asking anyway.

I'm no expert but if the car is jacked up and the wheels turn freely with no noise and the front ones don't make a noise when turned it should be ok,like I said I'm no expert but many on here are and welcome.

I've turned the wheels by hand and can't hear any rubbing, but I would say there is only 2-3 mm between the caliper and wheel.

as far as im aware there were no difference from when the TD4/SD4 FL2 was introduced in 2006 until run out. The only difference was between diesel and petrol models (petrol discs/pads are a straight upgrade to the diesel set up I believe)

Im not a mechanic so could be wrong but I think you should be ok

Just a point, but if the calipers are extremely close to the inside of the wheel rim they can clear when cold but when heated up after a period of long braking they can expand enough to rub believe it or not, because Ive known that happen.

You need at least 3mm clearance, not just enough so it doesnt rub when cold.

I've got a feeler gauge somewhere so will dig it out and double check exactly how much clearance there is.

So feeler gauge out and a whole 3mm clearance at the tightest point. I would be interested to hear from S owners or those with similar wheels fitted to determine if this is normal just so I can sleep at night

I would say anything more than 2+ mm is ok then, heres a quote from an alloy wheel supplier.

4. Verify that edge of the caliper does not touch the rim or the spoke. A minimum of 2mm (0.080") is recommended.
You have 3mm no problems

I recently removed my 18" summer wheels and fitted 16" winter wheels I also noticed the clearance with calipers was less but after a few thousand miles I am not so concerned
