Well just to throw something into the mix I have 2011 TD4 which I've superchipped and its been a bit of a revelation - smooth and much more confidence inspiring overtaking - it actually goes past things now without white knuckles - fuel consumption is down too to I'm averaging 33mpg on a commute down the lanes - was averaging 42mpg on a 200 mile trip to Bath the other day at a steady 70. I did try an SD4 when i bought the td4 the SD4 felt quicker but was averaging 26 mpg The td4 with the superchip feels not much slower than the Sd4. Ive been impressed so far and heres been no dramas. I don't thrash my cars so I'm not bothered about DMF and clutch issues. Its early days yet though. |

You don't have to thrash it for the DMF/Clutch failure to kick in, there seems to be very little consistency to when people have the failure (IF they have it all).

I originally had a TD4 manual, but found it was not a good choice for towing a heavy tintent. I was always working the gears, and the clutch was not up to the job. I took the plunge and changed to a D3. Amazing towcar, but when looking to change it, tried an SD4 auto. It was more than up to the job.

I think its the same gearbox as the lower powered TD4 auto, but with revised software/firmware.

Would a TD4 with a remap give similar results to the SD4?

I suppose its all about the efficiency of the turbo in the TD4 and with more power does it still keep economy etc

you can get remaps for improved economy, improved power/performance, or a happy medium of both.

The Superchips Bluefin is a remap - it adds c 50bhp on to the std TD4 with more torque. I've just installed it and am very pleased as it drives like a different car, very similar to SD4 IMO, the added benefit is you can take it off if you change vehicles. |
