Climate Control question - passenger temperature control

I have a 2007 HSE with the dual zone climate control.

With the weather getting a bit colder I have been fiddling around with the settings on the climate control and noticed something odd with the temperature controls on the driver and passenger sides.

On the driver side if I turn the temp control up or down (from my usual 20 deg) the fan speed increases accordingly to circulate hotter or colder air, and everything seems to work as it should.

But on the passenger side the temp control does not influence the fan speed at all, in any mode i.e. auto or manual, though it does change the temperature of the air on the passenger side - flowing into the footwell for example.

After more than 3 years owning the car i feel I should know the answer to this, but is this normal operation i.e. that the passenger temp control does not affect the fan just the air temp on the passenger side? I can't see anything in the handbook or Topix.

If this isn't normal, does anyone have any ideas what's wrong and how to fix it?

Cheers

I checked mine on the way home, and it's the same. I think the way it works is that the driver's side controls the climate control system (it's the master, if you like) while the passenger side just uses air blending via flaps to adjust the passenger temperature.

Thanks Pab, that makes sense.... and it's good to know that nothing is broken!

I'm sure I read somewhere that the Passenger side can only vary the Driver's temperature setting by +/- 4C which seems to follow the descriptions above. The Driver has control of the master settings and the passenger can only vary it by blending air.

Yes that's right - but I would have expected there to have been some mention in the Handbook which clarified how it is implemented.

Thanks also to Chicken George.
