You might have a protected NCB but I bet your insurance goes up next year. I ran into a deer a few years ago and that's what happened to me.

Not too concerned about the prospect of a raised premium - I would then shop around.

But you would have to tell any new insurer about the claim on your current policy. The new insurer then uses that info to help calculate the price.

Got hit with that with house insurance. FL2 TD4 GS 60 reg Facelift - so many issues
2019 DS. Terribly unreliable.
Sold DS for a 2021 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. Fingers crossed....
Sold Outlander for a 2014 SD4 SE Tech because I’m mental
Now greatly regret selling the Outlander. MPG of the FL2 is atrocious and so are the fuel bills. Fun though 😎
Couldn’t afford the fuel bills so back to an older Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. Significantly better than I remembered it to be…

Yep - but insurers work on actuarial data and the one incident in 40 years will be seen within the wider context. Not as cheap as it would have been but continuing to have the basis of NCB attached.

I believe nowadays that when you apply for insurance they look up your claims record from a central shared database when they work out the quote. They also take note of incidents that you have informed them about but not made a claim so be careful about ringing up to discuss if it mught be worth claiming for something.
A colleague had a "spent" motoring conviction (ie over 5 years previous) that you don't have to declare and found some insurers wouldn't insure him and would merely say that "the system" has refused his application but with no details as to why. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto
5 x FL2 4 manual + 1 auto

Yep, I'm aware of all that ad I have no intention of withholding information. However, a protected NCB is a protected NCB even if the overall premium rises.
