Knocking Noise Rear Grrrrr

Hi all...I have searched the forum and there are a number of things i have looked at. The slight dull knocking noise coming from the rear at low speed over minor bumps is sooooo annoying.

I have recently changed the rear shocks so that should be ok. I checked if anything in the trunk i misplaced, i have checked that the exhaust is mounted and all ok.

Someone here said that the rear bushes in the anti roll lever may be worn.

Can someone take a look at the picture and make sure i am pointing to the right part. I noted that they are not too expensive to buy the arm and the bushes so i would change it all on both sides if it came to it.

My question is this: The part i am pointing at in the picture...is that the anti roll thingy Smile and is it supposed to move from left to right slightly if you get hold of it and 'wiggle' it.... ? Both sides do it on mine so i guessed its probably normal. Would you suggest i just change the anti roll lever (if thats the correct term) and bushes to make sure? They are cheap enough and sure i could manage that myself--

Any advice is as always greatly appreciated.

I see you say the noise is at the rear, so no steering! Your finger tip is touching a rear drive shaft. Yes, there will be slight movement if you push/pull it. 10MY (Sept 09) TD4 HSE Auto in Stornoway Grey (Now Gone)

I am happy to be corrected on this but I think the rear anti-roll bar is a "U" shaped bar which links the suspension struts (uprights) together, I think on the FL2 using a fairly long vertical link at each end, close to the strut itself.

In your picture I think it is the bar directly above the one you are pointing at (which is a half-shaft), and it is the joints on the end of the vertical links which tend to be wear items, as can be the bushes used to secure the bar itself to the underbody. 2007 Freelander 2 XS TD4. As you can see i am no mechanic lol ..

So back to the anti roll bar and bushes...Could that be a possible reason?

They are cheap enough:

It was on my old one the rear anti roll bar bushes causing a knock on uneven surfaces they last about 50000 miles it seems??

In fact everything seems to last about 50000 miles thats when it all started going wrong on mine so it was got rid of and I bought a new one, it was easier than wondering what was going wrong next week. Laughing

Could certainly cause your noise. Checking your photo again - beyond your finger tip, that heavy bar is the A/R bar. There are vertical link rods at each end, one can be seen in your picture (to the right). That kit looks to be good value. Should only be a nut & bolt job to change the rods and D bushes. 10MY (Sept 09) TD4 HSE Auto in Stornoway Grey (Now Gone)

I think i will order the kit and replace. As Dunkley says its not a bad price and no harming changing to see if it is that noise.

As you say Landiroamer it was the cause with yours and a few others seem to have said the same.

I will update post when i have changed and let you know.

Many thanks for your help.

Are you sure it's not the vibration damper? They knock when they let go. See here http://www.freel2.com/forum/topic24349.html
