Much safer with 2 rear fog bulbs if one blows at least you still can be seen with the one that's remaining!

The single fog light must be fitted to the offside - this is so that in really heavy fog, someone approaching you from the rear will give plenty of room when overtaking. If you only had one on the nearside, some idiots could think you were a motorcycle, go to overtake you thinking they will miss you by a metre or so and hit your offside. At least that was the reason give to us on an MOT refresher course.

BTW, has someone nicked the 'T' badge off the rear of your car? Laughing

United Kingdom 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 SE Manual Sumatra Black

Having front (or rear) fog lights on when the visibility is more than 100m will certainly get you a ticket. This happened to a young lad I knew who had just passed his test and thought it looked cool while cruising around town in the evening. He had no idea he was doing anything wrong until he dazzled the oncoming policeman. Bad luck or just poor memory?

Isn't there evidence that oncoming drunk drivers tend to veer towards cars with too many lights on? If correct, this is surely a good enough reason to use them with care.

IMO front fog lights are only really effective when night-time fog is so bad that you have to turn off your dipped beams. You could then argue that it is too dangerous to be driving.

By the way, I always use full beam on a clear road in daylight fog: so the numpties with the misted-up windows can you see before they pull out of a side road. Obviously you must not dazzle oncoming drivers but I also use full beam in daylight on winding country lanes. Every little helps...
