Automatic gearbox movement when in park

Hi all i am new to this sight and wondered if anyone could help me. I have a fl2 automatic 2009 xs which I love however when I end a journey and select park and then remove my foot from the brake pedal the car will roll an inch or two either forwards or backwards depending in the levelness of where I park. Anybody have an answer for me ?

Pretty normal.

Every automatic I've ever driven does that.

The car is just rolling until it hits the transmission lock.

Agree with the above, and looking at its design its not the most 'beefy' transmission lock, with just a small pawl into small teeth on a sprocket. So apply handbrake first before moving into park unless on the level or you will find it troublesome at times to come out of park.

Agree - auto's move an inch or two in 'park' unless the handbrake is applied - as I found out once in a Merc S class when I parked about 2 inches from a metal post - bump! Td4 XS manual, Orkney Grey, MY2014

Thanks for the replies, yep i find using the handbrake helps it. Was unsure of buying an automatic but i have had it 7 months now and found it brilliant on its own and towing. Fuel consumption is a bit higher than the manual version but i am more than happy to compromise.

Seem to notice it more on the freelander 2 because it lerches like a spring when you let off the brake

Remember it also has to take up any slack in the transmission. Other Land Rovers with transmission brake you get the same effect on a manual even applying the handbrake! Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone
300TDi Disco (bought new - terrible car) sent back after 18 months
Freelander 1 Estate - leased, given back at end of lease
200TDi Disco (bought from a mate with 100,000 on the clock) - Gone
Disco 2 TD5 - sold and exported to France
FR2 TD4 GS - Gone
FR2 SD4 HSE - Now changed for a DS
New model ex-demo Evoque S 180 in white
Unable to order a new DS, so gave up. Now have a Volvo S90 Recharge.
