Fire extinguisher

Have a 1kg extinguisher that I would like to fit but unsure as to where. There does not seem an obvious space or cubby hole area to fit it. Has anyone else fitted one? If so where?

A little off topic...
Buy a 2kg one.
The 1kg one is just a tiny spray can which will let you down in the middle of the action.
Even the 2kg ones are at the limit, but God forbid to need one.
Just my 2 cents...

Must agree even a 2Kg one is virtually useless.

I cannot recall the time it will last but it is seconds not minutes, and bear in mind even the fire brigade tend to let car fires burn out as they are notoriously difficult to extinguish

Just long enough to open the door . . . if it is in reach of the driving position. Everyone can spread it - Anyone can catch it. Stay home - the life you save can be your own!

There was a previous thread on this which may be of interest ....http://www.freel2.com/forum/topic21613.html

Some consensus that 2kg is the minimum - think of it as stopping tiny flames before fire gets going and keeping knocking it down as it re-ignites- after that, run away quick.
I have the LR accessory 2kg. It goes in the boot on a metal cradle with a lip which grips onto the boot floor. A 2kg firex could become a big missile in the event of a prang so it has to be very securely mounted -mounting it in the footwell may cause a hazard to lower limbs. The only problem with the LR mount is that it conflicts a little with the LR rubber boot tray which has to sit over the top of the firex.

If you feel the need for an extinguisher then get an AFFF, smothers the fire, cools and causes less mess which can be washed off. 1 Kg would be adequate, it will knock it down and smother, unless a battery fire, for that you need tons of water it is a chemical fire and can only be extinguished by dilution. my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis

My first car, an Astra caught fire. I didn't have an extinguisher. Basically the car broke down, when I got out I could see flames in the engine bay so I just called the fire brigade and stood well back. Fire brigade came and put the fire out then showed me where the fire had started (distributer). Unless lives depended on it I wouldn't go back to a burning car. Black MY2013 SD4 GS Auto, Wood Company Armrest, Freel2 sticker.

The one I want to use in the FL is a foam one. I have a 2kg foam in the caravan as it is worth a lot more than the FL Shocked

Nine times out of ten the fire will start in the engine compartment, there are a few options to mount a foam extinguisher (AFFF) under the bonnet, some can be triggered automatically, others by various pull handles accessed from inside the car or externally (wheel arch or other accessible areas) without opening the bonnet. For aid of others many have quick release clips to remove the unit and use as a portable unit. my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis

The RAC Motor Sport regulations require a minimum of
A handheld of 1.75 litre AFFF plus a plumbed system minimum 2.25 litre AFFF, operable from inside and outside of car, with 2 nozzles in engine compartment.
A range of much more expensive systems are available with new extinguishants such as Lifeline Zero 2000 and Zero 360.
More info available on Motorsport Specialist Equipment suppliers sites.
While dry powder is very effective in some cases it seriously corrodes/destroys electrical wiring, terminals and components. All FL2's (3) Gone

I would have thought that it's probably better to spend money on decent insurance. Most vehicles will be written off after a fire anyway due to the cost of sorting out the resulting mess (wiring loom, paint damage, plastic parts melted etc). 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto
5 x FL2 4 manual + 1 auto
