Must agree even a 2Kg one is virtually useless.

Just long enough to open the door . . . if it is in reach of the driving position. Everyone can spread it - Anyone can catch it. Stay home - the life you save can be your own! |

If you feel the need for an extinguisher then get an AFFF, smothers the fire, cools and causes less mess which can be washed off. 1 Kg would be adequate, it will knock it down and smother, unless a battery fire, for that you need tons of water it is a chemical fire and can only be extinguished by dilution. my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis

My first car, an Astra caught fire. I didn't have an extinguisher. Basically the car broke down, when I got out I could see flames in the engine bay so I just called the fire brigade and stood well back. Fire brigade came and put the fire out then showed me where the fire had started (distributer). Unless lives depended on it I wouldn't go back to a burning car. The one I want to use in the FL is a foam one. I have a 2kg foam in the caravan as it is worth a lot more than the FL |

Nine times out of ten the fire will start in the engine compartment, there are a few options to mount a foam extinguisher (AFFF) under the bonnet, some can be triggered automatically, others by various pull handles accessed from inside the car or externally (wheel arch or other accessible areas) without opening the bonnet. For aid of others many have quick release clips to remove the unit and use as a portable unit. my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis

I would have thought that it's probably better to spend money on decent insurance. Most vehicles will be written off after a fire anyway due to the cost of sorting out the resulting mess (wiring loom, paint damage, plastic parts melted etc). 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto
