Steel Wheels

Hi all,

Thinking ahead to when winter is over and wondering if Steel Wheels are a bit more available yet for the FL2. I remember looking years ago and couldn't find anything concrete but found a 3 post thread on here from a site sponsor saying they now do them?

I always liked the rugged retro look of them so worst case the winter tyres would go on, or maybe a set of proper AT tyres for the summer.

I know the spare wheel in the kit is a steel but that says max 50mph, is that simply down to the nuts being bevelled for the allow wheels?

more to do with it being the width of a moped tyre i'd say Sophie Alltoft

I don't think it's because of the tyre width as mine has the 50 MPH MAX stickers on it an it's a 225 wide 17" tyre.
Incompatible wheel nuts I think are the reason for the restriction.

The steel wheels which were original spare wheels till about 2009 are marked 50 mph because of wheel bolts. Bolts for steel wheeled Mondeo are what I used. Mondeo steel wheels also fit FL.

Watch speed rating is correct HR, VR, for insurance All FL2's (3) Gone

It's against the law to have different size wheels on the same axle. The only exception is in emergency use and that is why they are limited to 50mph. Of course, if you had two 'emergency' tyres fitted to the same axle the speed limit wouldn't apply. It also doesn't matter if you have an alloy and a steel wheel on the same axle as long as the tyres are the same size/aspect ratio.

steel wheels

Mondeo 5 stud steel wheels fit the Fl2 unless it has an electric handbrake. The brake calipers wont let you fit 16 inch wheels.
you also need different wheel studs.

if you are interested I have a set of Mondeo 5 stud steel wheels with B F Goodrich all terrain tyres plus wheel nuts. the tyres are half worn having been used on my 12 plate Freelander doing course car duties on various rallies. Now I have a 14 plate HSE lux the 16 in wheels will not fit because of the bigger brake calipers.

Please ensure you comply with the For Sale/Wanted Rules
