I don't think it's because of the tyre width as mine has the 50 MPH MAX stickers on it an it's a 225 wide 17" tyre.

There are steel wheels now available. Try AJS4x4.....site sponsor * GONE. GS TD4 Manual MY2013. Orkney Grey with privacy, cold and clearview packs, armrests (a must!) and a spoiler.

It's against the law to have different size wheels on the same axle. The only exception is in emergency use and that is why they are limited to 50mph. Of course, if you had two 'emergency' tyres fitted to the same axle the speed limit wouldn't apply. It also doesn't matter if you have an alloy and a steel wheel on the same axle as long as the tyres are the same size/aspect ratio. |

Mondeo 5 stud steel wheels fit the Fl2 unless it has an electric handbrake. The brake calipers wont let you fit 16 inch wheels.

if you are interested I have a set of Mondeo 5 stud steel wheels with B F Goodrich all terrain tyres plus wheel nuts. the tyres are half worn having been used on my 12 plate Freelander doing course car duties on various rallies. Now I have a 14 plate HSE lux the 16 in wheels will not fit because of the bigger brake calipers.
