How easiy to service/maintain/fix a late FL2 SD4 at home?

Perhaps a topic covered before but I can't find it listed. I'm toying with the idea of a low mileage SD4 XS or similar in blue. Just how practicable are late FL2's to service and repair/maintain yourself?

I have a Haynes manual and the "freelander 2 repair and maintenance manual" downloaded for free which I've been looking at. I have experience of trying to service/fix my 2001 FL1 v6 for many years so I've sort of become familiar with FL's by force. I have a hawkeye which covers both FL1 and FL2 to help with analysis. Also invaluable forums like this. The big question is just how maintainable is a late FL2 by a home diy'er?

I'm confident in electrical/electronics and have carried out service/repairs on my FL1 for 10 years. Nothing too involved. Servicing/brakes/disks/seals/timing belt/suspension arm are within my limits but a gearbox change had to go to the main dealer. Started off with the easier stuff and things progressed as we ticked off usual faults... If I buy a FL2 I will be looking at long term ownership on a low at the moment yearly mileage. Hippo's videos - Honorary Tratterer

I'm a recent Freelander 2 owner after many years of 300 and td5 ownership and repairs, and so far im not finding any problems working on her, the more jobs i do the better my understanding of how it works and the less reluctant i am to have a go.
Your reservations are no different to everyone elses when the TD5 got a few years old and became fair game for us DIYers

England 2013 Freelander 2 TD4 GS Manual Orkney Grey

My current MY2013 is under LR warranty for another 12 Months but then I intend to service it myself as I did my old 2007 FL2 & 2002 FL1 before that. Never had a problem with servicing my old FL2. Oil and Fuel filters are a bit tricky at first but easy to do after that.
The only issue I have is resetting the service indicator(s) on the ‘later‘ (MY10/11)models. Easy on the earlier models. If you have access to diagnostic kit it’s fairly simple but that maybe something I need to invest in. I remember a post about this a while ago. A member posted a link to a simple piece of kit which would reset the service indicator (Oil and General Service I think).

Found it fine to work on so far. I replaced the rear diff myself, and have done the egr valve too .... Its like most modern cars, it's the same type of mechanics as older cars just with sensors bolted on. I.e., just a few more bolts to undo till you get to the stuff you know from old.

Just got the Haynes book nothing looks too arduous. Have cambelt change and autobox fluid change. Both at way before LRs time schedule.
