South Africa 2012 Freelander 2 SD4 S Auto Alaska White
"Highmiler" SD4's on this here forum...?

Or high kilometres , for that matter... Wink

I need to make up my mind regarding a "retirement car" and have the following questions:

1 What is the highest mileage achieved on an SD4 without a major engine/gearbox/*insert expensive item here* failure?

2 My car is still under maintenance plan ,2012, with 64 000 km done to date. Keep or trade?

3 What is most likely to fail between 50 and 150 k km?

4 Do I semi-retire the Landy now and use for vacations/long trips only whilst driving a Getz/similar sh*tbox to the office and back?

5 From day one I'm not a big fan of the Sport which replaced the Freelander, mainly because of price and 9 speed auto. Should I reconsider it?

Thanking you in advance!

PS: NO trouble (apart from seat sagging) to date! 2012 SD4 S

United Kingdom 2009 Freelander 2 TD4 XS Manual Lago Grey

Check out this thread http://www.freel2.com/forum/topic9185.html and also use the search facility. You'll see there are plenty of FL2s now with well over 100k miles (and in some cases 200k) with no major issues. It looks as though it's built for high mileages, and 64k km is barely run in!

United Kingdom 2014 Freelander 2 TD4 XS Manual Orkney Grey

I wouldn't worry too much if its the car you want. All marques have examples of cars that fail at low miles and others that keep going to the moon and beyond. LR is like all the others: IF something major fails it's likly to be expensive to fix. This forum makes it easy to believe the FL2 is more unreliable than most - its not.

The only answer is regular maintenance and avoidance of abuse, and enjoy your car. Td4 XS manual, Orkney Grey, MY2014
