Hi,
Picked up my (new to me Freelander 2) < 3 years old and only done 24,000 miles

I'm loving it so far and is in fantastic condition except for one minor (but major to me) issue.

When driving it yesterday I noticed certain parts of the steering wheel felt rough. On closer inspection i could see that part of the rubber coating was wearing off and looked a different colour. Has anyone else on here had that issue.

As I purchased the car from a Land Rover dealership I'm tempted to take it in to have the steering wheel replaced under there 2 year warranty but I am a bit worried they may just say it's normal wear and tear.

I had the same on my 2011 with 30k, I put it down to previous owners driving style. Bought private so had it leather trimmed couple of weeks ago

Looks like exactly the same problem as mine

Bought the car from Hatfield in Liverpool but I might get a leather trim or replace with a leather one on eBay as I really don't like the feel of the plastic I'm used to leather

I got it done by a polish guy here in Northern Ireland, dropped car off to him in morning picked up in afternoon £80. I'm well pleased with result. PowerfulUK have a number of options including an exchange deal where you buy a refurbished wheel and then send them your old one once the new item has been fitted.

I had a similar problem and bought one of these to try. Takes time to fit but when done carefully you cannot tell it is a cover, lovely feel and reasonably priced. Definitely would do it again.

Folk wearing rings play havoc with the trim, steering wheel covering and door handles and not to mention when they wipe the inside of the windows with the back of their hand and scratch the glass too

Hatfields have said as it's not a warrantable part and they have had no recalls on it they say they will do noting about it. Pretty gutted really.

Just bought the kit off EBay, fitted this afternoon.

Very very pleased, hides the wear and more important it's better feel an a sure grip.

Looked at the YouTube video, ha ha; I should have been fitted before my cup of tea went cold, the installer is working at fantastic speed; it's just impossible for a first time installer to do it that quick.

After speaking to Land Rover Customer Car they have agreed to replace the steering wheel as a gesture of goodwill

All booked in for next Friday.

If interested, you could always ask them to fit a leather wheel and you pay the difference. FL2 now gone and have a couple of items left for sale:-

Brodit active iPhone holder + Brodit dash clip,
Bluetooth Music Streaming Module.

That's what I'm trying to do. Waiting for Hatfields to ring me back.
