Major Electrics Problem

Hi all, not been on these boards for a very long time, but hope the technical help is as good as ever.

09 GS Auto, since this morning we have had a major problem, we pulled some fuses to check for wiper malfunction ( rear) which occurred yesterday , now the car will not do anything . I've tried checking every fuse under the glove box and in the engine all seems in order, The AA home start man has checked every relay and swopped them about. He disconnected the battery at both terminals and left it a while ,as the dash will not " turn off" . when it was reconnected you could hear the fuel pump ( I think ) hum, but zilch on everything else, the key won't come out even with the battery connected.

So in Summary We can not start the car , get messages on the dash , Transmission Failure, HDC failure, E, and exclamation marks ! Can't turn the dash the power off or get the key out , we will get it recovered to a garage but any ideas from the Gurus on here would be welcome. 2009 GS Auto Zermatt Silver - Sold June 21 after 10 years of ownership

Sounds like a flat battery, but presumably the AA man will have checked that?

battery should be 100% and indeed he did check it, and had his own booster pack as well , but thanks I will put my own voltmeter across it again anyway

Oh and the sidelights come on , the hazards flash, the doors won't lock, the boot won't open , but on the positive side the radio is great Very Happy 2009 GS Auto Zermatt Silver - Sold June 21 after 10 years of ownership

I know its been blamed for a multitude of problems and to be honest I haven't a clue to yours, but check the two plug/sockets in the passenger footwell where they have been kicked and separated. Confused

I would go with the battery....things that are working don't take a lot of power, but with the motors in the locks not working it seems to point towards the battery

Thanks I've rechecked the battery, even though the AA did it has 12.4 v so not tip top, but more than enough , The AA guy said its a can bus system and could be caused by any number of things but apart from the rear wiper going south yesterday it was running like new, surely pulling the fuses and relays couldn't cause an issue, ps they have all be re- checked , and so has the seating . 2009 GS Auto Zermatt Silver - Sold June 21 after 10 years of ownership

The trouble seemed to have started when you pulled the fuses out so I would go back to there, are you sure you put every fuse back in it's right place? e.g did you pull one out and put it in an empty spot either side of it, or you could check the fuse blades are clean in case of a bad contact

every Fuse is checked and reseated, the AA guy checked everything as well, I know what you mean , is that when the problem started, but to me it the nearest I've seen to this is when I've had firmware failures on my bikes, and wondered if it was anything like that , The AA man said the vehicle thinks it has had a crash . 2009 GS Auto Zermatt Silver - Sold June 21 after 10 years of ownership

Have you tried the system reset? Disconnect both battery leads and hold them together for a while - double check the correct method for this as I am going by memory.
Good luck.

Grasping at straws now but, maybe disconnecting the battery overnight to let everything drain down in case you have a stray voltage somewhere?

thanks Guys, Battery disconnected and on charge, and the battery leads joined with with one of my bike sized jump leads to do the " Hard Reset" but as the wiper was going funny yesterday I'm hoping it's not a canbus problem.

Just before trying all your suggestions, ( despite the AA doing most rational things ) , I popped the earth lead back on, the dipped beam and Hazards come on and flash immediately, there is a hum , and when you get in the car and push the start button a stream of messages appear in the centre HDC, Transmission Failure, Engine Module , the boot will not open , there is an E in the right hand indicator panel and an an exclamation mark in the right which is enclosed in a circle with an arrow, I'd be a happy bunny if someone said " I had that and it was ....,." 2009 GS Auto Zermatt Silver - Sold June 21 after 10 years of ownership

Is your battery an AGM type? When I had electrical problems with mine it turned out to be the AGM battery, it wouldn't hold charge or accept a 'jump' from another vehicle.

Just out of interest was the AA guy a Landrover Assist specialist or just a general AA type? I know that LR assist work for the AA now and are supposed to be sent out to JLR problems and they have the proper JLR diagnostic gear. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto
