Welding Plastic / Repairing Fog Light Mounting

Following what felt like a very minor encounter with a low-flying pheasant the other day I arrived home to find my nearside fog light surround missing and the plastic moulding which holds the fog light itself detached from the rear of the bumper! I have sourced a new surround, but re-attaching the fog light moulding is more problematic as three of its four mounting points have broken away from the bumper. The mounting points take the form of a tab on the bumper to which the plastic moulding is attached, and these tabs have broken (see images below for an example).

So, what is the best way of re-attaching the fog light moulding to the bumper (accepting that however I do it the bumper is going to have to come off)? Just re-stick it with some kind of plastic weld adhesive? Build it up with a fibreglass repair kit? Rig some other kind of fastenings?

Advice, please. Thank you!

I have found that Q-Bond works for me on broken plastic.

It is a bottle of powder that you sprinkle into a joint then drip the activator on it, within a few seconds you have hard plastic that you can file down flat. Depends on what you can access of course, you may need to take the bumper off to do it. Paul Redding

Thanks all - some good suggestions there. I'll look into Q-Bond and Milliput and take it from there, although the actual repair might have to wait until it gets a bit warmer!

That makes three of us. Smile

I've decided to try Q-bond, and if that doesn't work to reinforce the mend with Milliput.

Thanks again for the suggestions

I haven't tried it on the bumper yet - I've been busy with other things, whilst waiting for the temperature at least to get above freezing! Hopefully in the next week or two. I'll let you know how I get on once it's done.
