The local road bridge is to be closed for 6 weeks for refurbishments, meaning a 15 mile detour to take the kids to school. So in true farmer style we are re-opening the victorian railway bridge over the river. not a simple task, a lot of trees need pruning back just to get access to the bridge, quite a few stumps too pull out of the ground, but we have now a passable road. the bridge starts just after the digger in the picture and also needs some clearance to make it passable

Don't publicise it, every jobsworth from the local council will be there to tell you why you can't do it 10MY (Sept 09) TD4 HSE Auto in Stornoway Grey (Now Gone)

Where do you get off the old railwayline and back on the road - the map appears to show the line in a cutting going under the road. |

Ah that must be the track on the righthand edge of the map - that is a bit of luck to have that, it looks like a nice route, I am surprised that no-one has tried to make it a cycle route like so many other disused railway lines. |
