Sloshing noise from the tank

Hi all,

I've noticed a sloshing noise from the rear when I stop the car, I think it only occurs when the tank is full of fuel ... Rolling Eyes

Kind of knock noise

Does anyone noticed that on his car ? Question

Thanks

I havent noticed it on mine either, are there not baffle plates in the tank to stop it moving about, could be them that has come loose and causing the knocking. just a thought? Freelander 2 TD4 GS 2011 Manual Satorini Black (Current)

Thanks for your replie guys

Baffle plates Question have no clue, what do they look like ?

my car is MY2012 25 000 miles (and a whining noise from the rear as well Mr. Green ) ... this is not the first time a fill completely the tank but this is the first time I notice this knocking noise.

I'll try again when the tank will get empty and retry again when I'll fill it completely again.

I am only going on what I have seen on fuel tankers and the like, the plates are to give structure to the tank inside and on tankers stabalise the fuel so that when cornering it does not cause a sudden surge to the front of the vehicle. If you have a whining from the rear it could be the differential, check the oil levels could be running dry. Freelander 2 TD4 GS 2011 Manual Satorini Black (Current)

This is something I have seen complained about on the RR Sport forum, apparently there is a Service Bulletin to put some 'foam baffles' in the tank, but only if the customer complains.

Any baffles within the tank would, if still in original position, reduce the sloshing sound when the tank is full. The free surface effect is greater on a slack tank, so would be more prevalent on a half full tank. Change one variable at a time. Does the noise dissappear with an empty tank?
You describe sloshing and knock noise which don't really correspond.
the knock may be unrelated and down to suspension or sub frame movement with worn bushes. Could the slosh sound be worn pads maybe?

wouldn't everyone have the same noise given the tanks are the same? retro fit baffles would obviously fix if this is the problem if it is the case but I'm not sure that it is that. Don't seem to be many reports of it and one might expect it to be more common if it was down to that. Not saying it doesn't happen, just surprising. Similarly why do most cars not suffer from the same?

What MY car is the OP? Is it newer than mine? Doesn't show on mobile web version thay I'm running. Wondering if they have changed the design a bit or maybe you can hear it better for some reason.
Maybe your cars are quieter than mine so you csn hear it better. I invested in one of those things that drown out all noises, road noise, radio, everything. Bit expensive but very effective. Only downside is they need regular shopping trips Rolling with laughter

Rolling Eyes I have one too, with optional speed warning Laughing

Fill the tank and if the forecourt is quite, roll forward a few feet, hit the brakes and you will hear it Thumbs Up

If it is only when it's full of fuel it cannot be baffle related, the baffles only stop the movement when it partly empty, if it is full it cannot move, nowhere to move to Confused
It could me movement of the tank, when it's full, more weight, easier to move, especially if lose Question p****d off with a Digital Keyboard Warrior
