Couldn't agree more unfortunately Nick. Just trying to think why I come on here as I don't have an FL2 anymore.

No need to apologise alex. You asked a legitimate question which could have been answered by simply stating an offensive joke was removed. I think free speech is valid to certain extents and political correctness has indeed gone barmy in some respects (if we believe the press at least) but when I (or another member) take a genuine issue with a joke, it should be respected and rightly removed in accordance with the rules laid down by Martin. Unfortunately, these members hijacked your post to embark on a campaign that went against the aforementioned rules and they believed that me or any other member should look away and allow it to continue in the interests of free speech. The balance needed in such circumstances was applied properly by npinks but some could not let it lie. Yes it can be OTT to limit free speech but to ask people to ignore certain areas of a site in case they may be offended just so that others can say things unchecked and unchallenged is wrong on many levels. Npinks is to be applauded here for his efforts and I suspect when Martin takes stock of all this he will be unhappy to say the least at what has unfolded. Well that’s that then all dune and dusted, until the next time and there will be a next time (I’m not saying that to stir things up, it’s just a fact) it’s the nature of the beat with forums, people’s views and opinions will always be challenged. It may be a while, but there will be another topic that’s sets the whole thing off in week, a month or several months from now.

Lifes to short for all this . Its a British (or human) tradition to make tasteless sometimes offensive jokes. however its also a very British tradition to apologise to someone if they are offended by that joke even if you dont agree, it still the done thing to apologise.

I didn't see the joke either so have no idea what was said or the consequences thereafter but is is a shame the the mod now finds he has to relinquish his post due to thoughtless members.

I didn’t see the joke either, but the follow up postings were quite ridiculous and mostly childish.

Have to admit that these occurrences are commonplace on all Forums, what starts out as a difference of opinion can escalate into something worse with members choosing sides and before we know it, it is out off hand, it's like a roller coaster where some can't get off.
