Thought I would say

I think this forum or should I say it's members attitudes have gone down hill in resent months Confused

So until it changes I will not be contributing to it anymore on a personal level, I'll just keep a eye on it until Martin finds another mod and see how it goes from there

Can't think of anything worse than logging on to seeing what pathetic posts have been made, it's defiantly not an enjoyable forum to read so god knows what people finding it for the first time think, you'll probably never find out as I doubt they stick around Rolling Eyes Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Couldn't agree more unfortunately Nick. Just trying to think why I come on here as I don't have an FL2 anymore.

nick

So sorry you feel like that - I can understand though!

The life of a MOD is always going to be difficult.

I think/feel the term 'freedom of speech' is being used by 'many' in totally the wrong context.

Being able to speak up and have one's say is right - saying anything about anyone or anything regardless of sensibility is NOT.

Nothing to do with been a mod, it's people's attitudes towards others that's terrible

I can understand your view.

I bought my FL2 about 18 months ago and learned lots from the forum, its members and my own fumblings. I have tried to give back more recently and its generally been a thankless task. Even sending my own hard-learned info direct to members via PM to help them along has rarely even earned so much as a "thanks". It must be far worse for you 'having' to deal with matters daily - at least I can take it or leave it.

I hope it is just a passing phase as the forum can be great. I also use disco3 a fair bit and that is a bit up/down at the min - maybe a sign of the times or maybe just a lack of sunshine Very Happy

Maybe, you could name a few of the birds at Park Lodge to match those who are cheesing you off, dust them and then see how it goes - it always make me feel better

Anyway, I hope you can keep involved and continue the excellent standard of moderation on here Thumbs Up

If I knew that was going to happen like this I wouldn't asked that question about the humour section in the first place...
I am so sorry... Sad

No need to apologise alex. You asked a legitimate question which could have been answered by simply stating an offensive joke was removed.

I think free speech is valid to certain extents and political correctness has indeed gone barmy in some respects (if we believe the press at least) but when I (or another member) take a genuine issue with a joke, it should be respected and rightly removed in accordance with the rules laid down by Martin.

Unfortunately, these members hijacked your post to embark on a campaign that went against the aforementioned rules and they believed that me or any other member should look away and allow it to continue in the interests of free speech.

The balance needed in such circumstances was applied properly by npinks but some could not let it lie. Yes it can be OTT to limit free speech but to ask people to ignore certain areas of a site in case they may be offended just so that others can say things unchecked and unchallenged is wrong on many levels.

Npinks is to be applauded here for his efforts and I suspect when Martin takes stock of all this he will be unhappy to say the least at what has unfolded. LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

Well that’s that then all dune and dusted, until the next time and there will be a next time (I’m not saying that to stir things up, it’s just a fact) it’s the nature of the beat with forums, people’s views and opinions will always be challenged. It may be a while, but there will be another topic that’s sets the whole thing off in week, a month or several months from now.
The sooner people realise this and just get on with things the better, there’s more important things in life, than B##ching and moaning on forums, I myself was caught up in it not so long ago, that moments gone, let’s move forward.

Forums will also attract new members and will also lose a lot of members, some will drift in and out some are regular posters, but at some point all will drift away. Their space will be taken up by someone else, who’s keen and passionate about that sites particular interest. So make the most of it, enjoy it, join in with the banter and with the serious topics, take it for what it is, a website that’s dedicated to the Land Rover Freelander 2 and not the answer to the Ultimate Question of Life, The Universe, and Everything, which of course is 42

Nick sorry to hear about your decision, I certainly wouldn’t be able to put in the time and effort you have over that last few years, and you have had some difficult topics and members to deal with on occasions (possibly me not so long ago), hope you reconsider it, or at least stick around until our next get together, where we can all shake your hand and then tell you Bu##ger off Wink . I’ll make sure its not the clay shoot guys, those 12 bores can do a lot of damage Whistle

Lifes to short for all this . Its a British (or human) tradition to make tasteless sometimes offensive jokes. however its also a very British tradition to apologise to someone if they are offended by that joke even if you dont agree, it still the done thing to apologise.

instead we end up with a long winded online 'discussion' with no direction , opinions firing in from all sides easily misunderstood and impossible to moderate.

please consider Npinks role as moderator when making such posts. its a minefield for him, impossible to unravel without taking a side.

I for one have had enough of the nastier side of human personalities recently, and hope this forum returns to being a friendly place soon...with humour of course that is vital.

I never saw the joke, so am not fully able to grasp its possible affect. but I have spent a lot of my life afflicted by a terrible stammer ( nearly gone nowadays) so do understand that jokes about human afflictions are not always as funny as they first seem.
I have never ever managed to watch a whole episode of that ridiculous comedy with Ronnie Barker as the stammering shop keeper. I just didn't find it a comedy event, but I did laugh at his other jokes, he was a funny guy.

I've only seen one or two direct personal attacks on this forum, unwanted an un-needed and a long time ago. I hope not to see any more. At work

I didn't see the joke either so have no idea what was said or the consequences thereafter but is is a shame the the mod now finds he has to relinquish his post due to thoughtless members.
Hope you reconsider Nick, we have never met but I always thought you did an excellent job at trying to keep members inline. Gone, 2007 TD4 SE Auto Baltic blue, clear side repeaters, full sized alloy spare.

I didn’t see the joke either, but the follow up postings were quite ridiculous and mostly childish.

I also hope that the forum gets back to what it was intended as – an “International” Freelander2 forum which also seems to have been forgotten recently. There is always place for humour and friendly gesturing in the Humour and Off Topic areas, but agree that offensive attack’s between differing opinions are best kept at a personal level away from the forum.

Let’s hope all serious members interested in their FL2 will make an effort to put this forum back on track where it was in 2007 when I joined and those that only want to make a noise will think twice before ruining others interest and enjoyment without the need for censorship. 2007 Freelander 2 HSE TD4 Manual with Premium Pack & Moonroof.

Have to admit that these occurrences are commonplace on all Forums, what starts out as a difference of opinion can escalate into something worse with members choosing sides and before we know it, it is out off hand, it's like a roller coaster where some can't get off.

It will happen again and whoever is involved will as usual be reined in, and I only hope that Nick will still be here to continue his excellent 'modding' that he is so good at. He chooses no side and acts as he sees fairly and whether we agree or not, at the end of the day his decision is binding.

I must admit to not seeing the 'supposed' joke and my two comments were based on the right of opinion irrespective of the content, not free speech. I also never saw the ending posts before it was pulled so cannot comment there, but I will back your 'modding' and decision making 100% at the end of the day, also, because I have met you, you're a nice guy as well. Laughing

Life's to short for this, it's bound to happen again and hopefully he will be around to check on the 'gobby' one's once again, it's a thankless task you do Nick and I hope I speak for all when I say you do it well and it's appreciated. Thumbs Up

Well sorry if the joke offended, pretty tame joke in comparison to others I see at work. It's was removed for what ever reason so that's that. Should of just been left at that
