Read the whole thread and digest it, then provide your own opinions. I have seen it all before, this thread has caused no end of arguments and unsubstantiated nonsense, we have dozens of pages of garbage we have removed from this thread, so forgive us if we see the whole thing resurrected again and make light of it, I am not saying it doesn't work, I will stay on the fence for the moment. As for the answer you received to your initial question, the poster has done 1.5km and claimed it was amazing, that is about the level of info we have come to expect, hence our lighthearted response. |

now that is good, but not sure how 2SO helped, unless it made you drive faster in case you broke down Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis |

Tried driving at the same speed but the downhill part of the journey home seemed longer. |

I've done about 2 tankfuls now. It seems to have increased efficiency... I did a round trip of 300m mainly motorway and got just over 40mpg. I've never got the Av mpg over that on any trip before - normally maybe 35-37 on a run. It was M1 south from Leeds so quite a bit of the pesky 50mph av speed driving, then 70mph where I could as per my usual style. I reset it before the trip due to my starting problem and battery resets (all too frequent). Haven't quantified any other benefits like rattle, but to me it seems a little quieter (no empirical evidence). It costs about £3.40/l for the 2SO so adds maybe £1 a tank, so costs wise any savings over about 1% is positive. And if it takes some strain off the engine I'm prepared to go with it for a bit. |

I got 41mpg on my trip to wales, as you say the 50mph speed limits help, but I never went above 80

wish I could get that from my 07 npinks but not expecting it any time soon, & your HSE is bit better sound insulated than my old XS. I'd fancy one but hoping the discovery sport might hit the spot in the next year or 2 (will mine last that long)? |

The mpg of a 2014 model v a 2007 model is an apples and pears job and just serves to make us owners of older models envious.

You can only have trade offs if there are alternatives, and not if there are none. |

No pioneering spirit these days! As you say though "each to their own" perhaps its being retired that makes the difference - time rich, cash poor(ish), or just being an efficient faffer! In my working life I once knew a chap who actually went round and collected fag ends, pinched the baccy out and sold it at a pound or two per handful. Made a fortune. The baccy was lethal and he would openly curse anyone he saw smoking filter tipped as they undermined his income as he saw it. He didn't drive a Land Rover though he could have afforded to. I always admired his entrepreneurial spirit if nothing else! |
