I would suggest a trip up the road to Richer Sounds in Jamaica Street, Glasgow, give them a ring first, have a chat to Neil the manager with your options and arrange for a demonstration,They have a dedicated room to set up any combinations, it's all free. The advice is the best you will get on the high street and join the VIP club before you buy as you get free 5 year warranty for the same price or less than Currys and more knowledge. Most Richer employees are enthusiasts rather than waiting for a decent job. my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis

Thanks DTO , a few of the guys have said about richer sounds , I think I am a VIP. I didn't know about the dedicated room, that sounds good . Both currys and RS give a 5 yr warranty but as you say the RS guys are enthusiasts . Do it now ! Your a long time dead !! |

Ok .. please keep us updated. I can see prices falling soon anyway. I'm waiting for the new 2015 sets to appear so that current models reduce... hopefully.

Samsung seem to be the only major manufacturer into curved screens at the moment, I can see the sense of them with large screens in small rooms, but the distance I sit from the screen it wouldn't be worthwhile until about 110", even then for best viewing you would need to be fairly centre, so only see it an advantage for one or two people. my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis

yes Samsung certainly seem to be the trend setter of late and build good reliable TV's.. my current 40" is 4 yrs old and working well, but I am looking to upgrade this year and therefore tempted by 4K.

I have recently bought a 4k UHD Samsung 55" curved tv and I find the picture quality fantastic especialy on nature programmes its like being there. the only down side is the sound quality from the tv voices sound very tinny. But other than that I am quite happy with my purchase. Freelander 2 TD4 GS 2011 Manual Satorini Black (Current)

Just had an email from eBuyer advertising a 49" Freeview TV for £299. Although we have a fairly large 5 bed house we can't find anywhere suitable to put a screen larger than 32" ! Don't you people have windows? |

I note that those who live in the average house use the chimney breast or where it would be to hang a large screen set. I am also beginning to wonder why they fit speakers in these large sets as they just can't be manufactured to be effective in sound generation compared to the picture. Some two years ago Sony stated at a seminar that in five years time the average set size would be 60", so if that is so, and it is beginning to look if it will be, the I would hang on for three years when they will be priced to sell in numbers at a fairly high spec. my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis

My parents' first TV was a 12" b/w with only one channel ie BBC. No remote either. |

I took my external hard drive down to currys today. I have home movies convert from the tape and some (a lot) of downloaded movies , average file size is 800 mb , tbh the picture quality was awfull . On my normal 40" LG tv the home movies look just as good as the tape & the downloaded movies are more than acceptable . The problem I see with the 4k is that you can't turn the system off . With the downloaded movies all it does highlight the imperfections by 4 times.

I understand that there is a lot of confusion and smoke and mirrors in this area. 4k Tv has only 2160 vertical pixels as opposed to 1080 so that it's only twice the resolution (4k refers to the horizontal) and that some TVs are using an interlace trick (like on the old PAL TV system) where you see the same signal on alternate frames. The old PAL colour system relied on a number of visual tricks to squeeze the colour signal into the original b/w spectrum and I see some parallels here. There is a lack of standardisation and a lot of hype in this whole area ranging from the discs, players, TVs etc. Bit like most consumer electronics really |

Bit of info here, some of the replies highly technical but they tend to show various thoughts to the way ahead, you take your chance when you buy technology today, some work until next month some last a bit longer. https://www.avforums.com/article/first-loo...+Campaign. my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis
