United Kingdom 2012 Freelander 2 TD4 GS Manual Indus Silver

It's not hard for TV's to be ahead of console tech when they have the luxury of annual hardware updates, worked with the PS4/XONE dev kits for two years and theres no way they will output 4k games at an acceptable framerate. PS4 may do at the end of its cycle but even then its going to be massively limited, simply doesnt have the VRAM to chuck the frames out fast enough.

I agree with pcheaven - buy the best you can afford at the time you need it. I bought a Panasonic TX-P46G20-B Full HD Plasma in 2011, just as it was superseded. Still going strong and with Freesat + Freeview tuners. Picture upscaling is so good that we rarely feel the need to use HD channels. Always use it linked to my 5.1 AV system for movies & TV drama. Sound quality on flat screens is their one failing.

Thanks for all the info, a lot to take in . I'm looking at Sony , lg & Samsung .from what I understand lg & Samsung use the same screen. We went to currys today and we might be looking at a 55" now. I was impressed with the Sony HD, the picture was that wee bit better than the LG . It's a LED we are looking at , plasma is old hat , seemingly LED is getting old hat and OLED is the future but the price is way off the scale.
The problem with currys is that all the TVs are showing the same UHD advert , I would like to see normal tv through a sky box to see what the picture truly looks like. Do it now ! Your a long time dead !!

this keeps getting in my head, but till my current TV fails there is no point and it will be cheaper by then too Laughing

Thanks npinks but I'm not spending £2k on a TV . Years ago we bought a 36" crt , I think it was a Panasonic , a huge silver thing . 2 people could hardly pick it up . It broke my heart when it went belly up , the TV cost £1500 10yrs , not going down that rd again. Do it now ! Your a long time dead !!

Surely the real problem is that there is hardly anything worth watching on TV anyway !

I am thinking of becoming a television snob ie I won't have one

I'm with you on that, sat here for over an hour talking to the wife, listening to the wife and it hasn't been turned on yet, then she will spend all night watching soaps, leaving me to keep an eye on here Laughing

100% agree, I am always telling my friends and family the same thing

you will always find that consumerism, retail prices and the perception that manufactures attempt to deploy to the public always moves faster than the actual tech itself.

So, last years best, and this years cheapest(er) is more often than not very similar to the current latest and greatest offerings
and thus much better value.

Since most consumer stuff is made in the same few factories in the far east I have always taken the view that you buy the cheapest TV, laptop, washing machine etc. I recently had to replace the heater in our 12 year old indesit dishwasher and discovered that the same part fitted 57 different dishwashers including premium brands like Smeg, Bosch etc. I looked a little further and discovered that the same goes for all the important bits like pumps, valves etc.
Bit like Freelanders being full of FoMoCo parts?

Look at Richer Sounds, join the VIP club before you buy (free, register on line) and get a free 5year warranty, they usually knock a few more quid off. certainly a lot cheaper than Currys and better service. next nearest is John Lewis my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis

What they said.... but remember the 2015 lines are just about to arrive..... Sony have even announced yesterday most will come with Youview which is a first as well as Android TV at CES which slightly nudges them over Sammy.

4k - Mmmm unlike HD I'm undecided as its about pixel density past the human perception... I'm more colour representation with out processing my self...

Yes it may be higher res but does that make it better ?

There is one programme ( ie Airwolf ) which has just been remastered. Yes it looks cleaner but the higher res etc actually reveals some things that where not expected to be seen by the production - end result DVD is better.

On the 4k side - yes Netflix ( so I assume Amazon) are there, BT is working on it which actually caused Sky to announce last week their new 4k box was been accelerated ready for next footy season. This box includes remote play so it will be no small feat to complete.

I looked closely at this model. Mainly
Because it didn't have speakers like those
Further up the Sony range.

Found the blacks and contrast lacking.
Note. I previously owned a range topping
Fully array back-lit Sony hx903
So had been spoilt.

I recall whathifi reviewed this to
